Assignment:

Establishing Characters

Who is your protagonist/antagonist. What drives them/ motivates them to do what they do and how will that affect your animation/story.

In this assignment, I made the models move in Maya, showing a draft of a simple animation. After making this animation, I knew what the total length of the animation needed to be and the length of each shot, and I also thought about the way the character moved and how he moved, which wasn’t an easy process, and I still needed to add camera movement to the animation to connect each story shot and make simple scenes to see how they were laid out in the frame. George helped me a lot with the composition of the shots, and I followed his advice and made changes to reflect the composition in the animation.

Assignment:

Telling stories through the camera

Creating early stages of storyboards animating different types of cameras and shot angles. Being able to read and identify what is going to be used in your scene/shot before any character animation is needed. Rule of thirds.

I created the storyboard in Maya using simple graphics, the characters were made of basic geometry of circles and rectangles, which allowed me to create compositions easily, I recreated the storyboard and started thinking about the layout and size of each character in the frame and the way the story was told, and tried to make the layout look better in the scene layout, and also added the idea of camera movement.

I chose the story of the dream and experimental animation to do Maya simple graphics in the production, I made it clear that the story I wanted to produce is the dream this story is more interesting and more complete, I created a draft of a simple poster for the story, it began to become rich.

Assignment:

Breaking down your ideas to the bare bones of the world that they are in. Sets and props. How will this influence the shot/scene/character. Animation analysis.

After the first critique, George added some corrections for me, and then I chose Dreamland as the future story I would create, because the Mad Scientist was too much for a complete story, and I thought it would be more fun to create a fairy tale as opposed to an experimental animation.George gave me some guidance on camera work, and I focused on composition to learn a few methods of film composition, which I felt benefited me a lot. Assignment brief; Creating 3 previz ideas using the techniques above which will be reviewed over the term and eventually narrowed down to one to finalize in the next term. Animation analysis. Demos show casing contraints, effects, cycles and studio library.

This week’s task was to produce three story ideas, which will become the bijou afterwards. I produced the following three stories.

Two of the stories were conceptualised during my undergraduate days and I have re-organised and edited their stories, in the mad scientist story I had produced full scenes and characters, and in the dreamland, a story where I have a few illustrations, which may serve as a reference for future productions, and the experimental animation, which is more of a narrative story, and whose production was slightly more difficult.
